Illegal's Rally, Voter Registration

An article in the newspaper reported on the voter registration drive at the rally. It said that only 35 people had registered. I contacted the Washington County Voter Registration and asked about those registrations. I was told that they will check their social security numbers and driver's license. I asked if it were possible for people to give fake S.S numbers and driver's license. I was told yes, but hopefully they'd be able to catch it because the names may not match. I was told because of the Motor Voter law they can no longer ask for verification of citizenship. They are hoping that the threat of a $10,000 fine and/or 10 yrs in prison would deter illegals from registering. The woman at the office was extremely nice and helpful. Since I'm curious about these registrations I told her I'd follow up with her later.

Dickson Street, Fayetteville

In order to preserve the image of the Dickson Street area, the City Council passed a measure that limits new buildings to 6 stories or 84 feet, whichever is less.

This person is a bit upset about it and goes off in a rant. He must have been smoking something when he read about it. He's got his facts wrong.

The restrictions apply to C-3 commercial zoning, which is in place only along Dickson Street and a small portion of Joyce Avenue, said Kit Williams, city attorney.

Such a change makes sense for Dickson Street. Dickson Street right now is the really hot place to put in shops and condos, but not everyone is going to be able to build there. The area is also a historic district which needs to be preserved. Then there are the streets. Those streets are not going to be able to handle the traffic from a bunch of new multi-story buildings. Traffic and parking are extremely hideous now.

The City Plan 2025 identified areas where multi-story, multi-use buildings would be perfect. One such area is College Ave. This street is such an eyesore. It would be great to duplicate the renovation of Dickson Street along College. I could see a number of 10-15 story buildings along it.

Letter to Senator Frist

This letter is being sent around. I am more than willing to help, especially since David's letter is so eloquent. Actually, this letter needs to be sent to everyone in Congress.

Dear Senator Frist:

There is a huge amount of propaganda and myths circulating about illegal aliens, particularly illegal Mexican, Salvadorian, Guatemalan and Honduran aliens.

1. Illegal aliens generally do NOT want U.S. citizenship. Americans are very vain thinking that everybody in the world wants to be a U.S. citizen. Mexicans, and other nationalities want to remain citizens of their home countries while obtaining the benefits offered by the Unit ed States such as employment, medical care, in-state tuition, government subsidized housing and free education for their offspring. Their main attraction is employment and their loyalty usually remains at home. They want benefits earned and subsidized by middle class Americans. What illegal aliens want are benefits of American residence without paying the price.

2. There are no jobs that Americans won't do. Illegal aliens are doing jobs that Americans can't take and still support their families. Illegal aliens take low wage jobs, live dozens in a single residence home, share expenses and send money to their home country. There are no jobs that Americans won't do for a decent wage.

3. Every person who illegally entered this nation left a home. They are NOT homeless and they are NOT Americans. Some left jobs in their home countries. They come to send money to their real home as evidenced by the more than 20 billion dollars sent out of the country each year by illegal aliens. These illegal aliens knowingly and willfully entered this nation in violation of the law and therefore assumed the risk of detection and deportation. Those who brought their alien children assumed the responsibility and risk on behalf of their children.

4. Illegal aliens are NOT critical to the economy. Illegal aliens constitute less than 5% of the workforce. However, they reduce wages and benefits for lawful U.S. residents.

5. This is NOT an immigrant nation. There are 280 million native born Americans. While it is true that this nation was settled and founded by immigrants (legal immigrants), it is also true that there is not a nation on this planet that was not settled by immigrants at one time or another.

6. The United States is welcoming to legal immigrants. Illegal aliens are not immigrants by definition. The U.S. accepts more lawful immigrants every year than the rest of the world combined.

7. There is no such thing as the "Hispanic vote". Hispanics are white, brown, black and every shade in between. Hispanics are Republicans, Democrats, Anarchists, Communists, Marxists and Independents. The so-called "Hispanic vote" is a myth. Pandering to illegal aliens to get the Hispanic vote is a dead end.

8. Mexico is NOT a friend of the United States. Since 1848 Mexicans have resented the United States. During World War I Mexico allowed German Spies to operate freely in Mexico to spy on the U.S. During World War II Mexico allowed the Axis powers to spy on the U.S. from Mexico. During the Cold War Mexico allowed spies hostile to the U.S. to operate freely. The attack on the Twin Towers in 2001 was cheered and applauded all across Mexico. Today Mexican school children are taught that the U.S. stole California, Arizona, new Mexico and Texas. If you don't believe it, check out some Mexican textbooks written for their schoolchildren.

9. Although some illegal aliens enter this country for a better life, there are 6 billion people on this planet. At least 1 billion of those live on less than one dollar a day. If wanting a better life is a valid excuse to break the law and sneak into America, then let's allow those one billion to come to America and we'll turn the USA into a Third World nation overnight. Besides, there are 280 million native born Americans who want a better life. I'll bet Bill Gates and Donald Trump want a better life. When will the USA lifeboat be full? Since when is wanting a better life a good reason to trash another nation?

10. There is a labor shortage in this country. This is a lie. There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of American housewives, senior citizens, students, unemployed and underemployed who would gladly take jobs at a decent wage.

11. It is racist to want secure borders. What is racist about wanting secure borders and a secure America? What is racist about not wanting people to sneak into America and steal benefits we have set aside for legal aliens, senior citizens, children and other legal residents? What is it about race that entitles people to violate our laws, steal identities, and take the American Dream without paying the price?

For about four decades American politicians have refused to secure our borders and look after the welfare of middle class Americans. These politicians have been of both parties. A huge debt to American society has resulted. This debt will be satisfied and the interest will be high. There has already been riots in the streets by illegal aliens and their supporters. There will be more. You, as a politician, have a choice to offend the illegal aliens who have stolen into this country and demanded the rights afforded to U.S. citizens or to offend those of us who are stakeholders in this country. The interest will be steep either way. There will be civil unrest. There will be a reckoning. Do you have the courage to do what is right for America? Or, will you bow to the wants and needs of those who don't even have the right to remain here?

There will be a reckoning. It will come in November of this year, again in 2008 and yet again in 2010.

We will not allow America to be stolen by third world agitators and thieves.

Wal-Mart Worker Finds Man Glued to Toilet

SALISBURY, Md. - A 20-year-old was found by a Wal-Mart employee in the bathroom Sunday night after he sat down and was glued to the toilet seat.
The man, whose name was not released by police, was taken to the hospital late Sunday night, said Lt. Cheryl Rantz of the Salisbury Police Department.
"The man had gone into the bathroom and sat down," she said. "He was banging on the wall when the employee came in."
Rantz said the man was treated and released.

OK! I want to know the whole story behind this. Who put the glue on the toilet? Didn't the guy look at the seat before he sat on it? Didn't he feel something odd and immediately stand up? How long was he on the toilet? Either that was some fast acting glue or he sat on the toilet for awhile.

Springdale, Arkansas; Illegal's Rally

I swung by the illegal's immigration rally in Springdale. I wasn't able to stay for the program, but I walked around to see what people were doing. There were several thousand people there. I felt a little out of place because most of them were Hispanic and I am white.


There must a been a message passed around not to display the Mexican flag, wear clothes that promoted Mexico and not to have signs that pushed illegal's rights.


The few Mexican flags I saw walking up to the crowd soon disappeared from sight. I saw mostly American flags. The program handout that I was given had the Pledge of Allegiance and a few American songs. I did note that "De Colores" the anthem of the United Farm Workers of America, a union founded by César E. Chávez was to be sung.


Of course, there just had to be the "Bash Bush" people. Strange, didn't they realize that President Bush is on their side?


I saw that they were registering people to vote. I asked what organization was doing it. I would have never quessed. It was the Social Workers of Arkansas. Government workers getting illegals to register to vote?


There were a small number of counter-protesters. They pretty much left after the rally got started.

Senator McCain, No Free Speech?

It gets really scary when a Presidential contender comments that he'd have no problem getting rid of the First Amendment.

Mark Tapscott caught Sen. John McCain, R-AZ, on the Imus Show responding to criticism from Talk Radio's Michael Graham? Here's the key quote:

"He [Michael Graham] also mentioned my abridgement of First Amendment rights, i.e. talking about campaign finance reform....I know that money corrupts....I would rather have a clean government than one where quote First Amendment rights are being respected, that has become corrupt. If I had my choice, I’d rather have the clean government."

We will never have a clean government. There will always be corrupt elected officials. The First Amendment allows us to speak up against corruption in government. Without free speech, Americans would be suffering under a repressive,tyrannical, corrupt government. It is absolutely amazing that a Senator would even think of such a thing. It's one really good reason not to vote for McCain.

One of best freebies handed out at last Saturday's Race for the Cure were the Energizer Ears. Our first model, Trixie, is such a good sport. Of course, she's such a sweetie she'll doesn't mind that I embarrass her.

Casey, on the other hand, is just totally ashamed to have his picture taken. I think he believes if he closes his eyes no one can see him. Make it go away!

Arkansas, Educating From The Bench

Opinion Journal has a must read article. It's in regard to the Arkansas State Supreme Court ordering the legislature to spend more on schools. Jay Greene reviews the problem which began in 2001 when the Court

declared the amount of money spent at that time--more than $7,000 per pupil--in violation of the state constitutional requirement to provide a "general, suitable and efficient" system of public education.

Greene goes on to criticize the professors who were hired to determine the funding needed to fulfill the Court's order. He says the method they used didn't really address whether the funding would result in an adequate education or that it was cost effective. He says that there should be evidence that increased spending would produce increased student achievement. Greene say that it doesn't.

The vast majority of social science studies find no relationship between spending and student achievement. My own analysis of schools in Arkansas finds that schools with more money perform no better than schools with less once student and community background characteristics are controlled. And the fact that per pupil spending has doubled over the past three decades while student achievement has remained stagnant ought to give us a clue that simply spending more won't fix schools. The shortcomings of schools are not generally attributable to the lack of resources, but to a lack of incentives to use resources effectively.

Greene goes on to criticize the Court for accepting the professor's recommendations and choosing to ignore the fact that more money doesn't produce better students. Greene doesn't stop at criticizing the Court, he goes after the legislators too.

For the 2005 school year, money was added to the teacher health plan and school construction funds, but the minimum amount that school districts would receive for operating expenses (excluding capital and categorical money) was left unchanged at $5,400. The plaintiff attorneys argued before the state high court that spending had to at least match inflation.
The court agreed and ordered the governor to call the Legislature in special session to remedy the situation. Legislators met in early April and in less than a week increased spending again. They were so eager to placate the court that they gave schools more for the current school year, even though it could hardly do any good with only a month remaining. They also increased spending without knowing how the last round of additional money was being used or whether it had any effect. Messrs. Picus and Odden were retained for another $450,000 to provide this information, but their report is not expected until August.

Arkansas' elected leaders have ceded control over the budget to the State Supreme Court. I have heard some remarks by Republican candidates about the Court's legislating from the bench. I don't know how big of an issue this will become in the coming elections. I do know that the Democrats are not worried about it because they're happy to spend our tax money. They see no harm in letting the Court legislate from the bench. I agree with Greene that until Arkansans tell their legislators to stop the over reaching of the Court, we can expect our taxes to remain high and for more money to be spend in the black hole that is education.

Bill Pritchard and Jim Bob Dugger

This is from the Washington County Republican Women's Senate District 35 Forum. Bill Pritchard and Jim Bob Dugger are running for Senate District 35. I was very impressed with both candidates. Either one would fill the seat very well.

The first questions were about Education. Concerning rural schools Dugger said that forcing children to spend hours on buses was wrong especially since the Internet was available for teaching. Pritchard said he understand the need to consolidate schools but thought that provisions were available to protect the rural schools. Regarding the Board of Education, should it be elected or appointed. Pritchard indicated that he didn't think that the current Board of Education was the problem. Dugger thought that the Board should be accountable to the people and should be elected. Dugger supported tax credits instead of vouchers for those that elected not to use the public schools. Pritchard supported school vouchers, but thought that if people felt the need to take their child out of the public school then it was a problem that should be address at the local school board. He declared that God and Prayer should be back in the schools. Both candidates were concerned about using state funds for Preschool. They didn't want the state to become a babysitting service.

There was just a couple of questions regarding economics. Both felt that the state should invest in super projects, especially for the more depressed parts of the state. They also agreed that some sort of "rainy day" fund should be set up from any surplus the state has. Dugger said that the current general improvement funds could be used as such a fund instead of dividing it up among the districts to be spent on whatever they wanted.

Last was the question regarding illegal immigration. Pritchard kept it short: Get legal or go home. Dugger said that we must first firmly seal off the border.

It's going to really difficult to decide between the two of them. It's too bad that we can't send them both.

Conservative Republican Coalition, NW Arkansas

This is an interesting bit of politics. A group called the Conservative Republican Coalition of Northwest Arkansas has formed because they believe that Democrat candidates are running as Republicans. These Republicans In Name Only (RINOs) believe that the only way they can win an election here in NW Arkansas (considered a GOP stronghold) is to become a Republican. R. Shawn McGrew and Kathy McFetridge, both former Democrats who left the party in recent years, are accused of running for office as Republicans.

McFetridge, who serves on the Springdale School Board, said she first voted Republican in 2002 and had for a while felt out of place with the Democratic Party.
The 55-year-old business owner lost her 1998 bid to Jim Bob Duggar, a Republican, as both sought to replace term-limited incumbent Louis McJunkin of Springdale, a Democrat.
McFetridge said the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks changed her mind about her political affiliation and, ultimately, led to her bolting the party. McFetridge said her anti-abortion stance also put her at odds with the party. "That made me feel out of place with my party," McFetridge said. "I think it's important to realize that times change and people change.".

I spoke to Kathy today. I asked her how she felt about the Coalition. She said that they have not made an effort to talk to her. She also said that she didn't know why they couldn't understand that people do change. I asked her to explain her Republican values. She said that she was pro-life and a Christian. I remarked that there were Democrats that were pro-life and Christian. I wanted to know what values she had that were Republican. She finally said she support the 2nd Amendment and wanted to eliminate taxes on groceries.

Ok, in contrast to other candidates, Kathy has done a poor job of explaining her beliefs and values. Try to get her to describe what she believes was like pulling teeth, very difficult. Even after talking with her, I'm not quite she what she stands for. If Kathy truly believes she's a Republican, she needs to be able to effectively and passionately state what she believes.

Stolen From

Arizona-Mexico Border Fence

This is a picture of the fence that the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps will build. They say they will begin building in Arizona on Memorial Day weekend if President Bush doesn't deploy National Guard and reserve troops to immediately secure the out-of-control southern border. They have already received permission from several landowners and a couple of construction companies have offered to help. The fencing will be built with privately donated funds.

I really like the idea of building the fences privately, especially since the Bush administration seems to have little desire to enforce the borders. This is a really big failure on the part of the Bush Administration. I, like the majority of the U.S., am concerned about the ease in which people can cross the border. It's a miracle that terrorists have not brought anything across so far.

What happens if this idea really works? The Bush administration will be really embarrassed when these fences slow down the illegal immigration traffic. Quite frankly, it's a mystery to me why President Bush refuses to secure our southern border. It's one thing that he can do which will make the amnesty program more acceptable to people.

Race For The Cure

WAA-HOO!! I'm Back! I'm Better Than Ever! I finished the race 3 minutes faster than my old time! YEAH! It was a gorgeous day, perfect weather.

Oh My Gosh! There were so many people! There were those that brought their dogs. Some dressed up and carried signs.

There were those that designed their own shirts. I like these the best. "Pray for the Cure"

There were celebrities too! Most of the McDonald characters were around. I'm going to have to really work hard this year. Next year, I'd like to be able to jog the course.

Casey's New Toy

I was given a T-shirt that had long sleeves. I didn't like them so I cut them off. I took the remnants and sewed them together so that they look like a tube. I then stuffed the tube.



Casey has a new toy, which he likes very much!

What's Growing in the Garden

I've gotten everything planted in the garden. When I come home from work I go and look to see what's coming up.


What in the heck is this? I didn't plant this! Somebody must have sneaked into my garden and planted a Tigger cat!

Susan G. Komen, Race For the Cure

Just after a few months since I've completed radiation therapy, I am going to walk the 5K part of the race. I have been getting in shape these past few months. The last few weeks I have managed to walk 3 miles at least 3 times per week. Tonight I just walked a mile, I didn't want to be hurting tomorrow morning. I'll be able to finish the race but not as fast as I have in other years. That's OK, this year the goal was to be able to walk the entire race. Next year I'll do it faster.
