Staying Behind the Times

Shades of Betamax and 8-Track.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's largest retailer, said it will start offering high-definition DVD players and discs only in Sony Corp.'s Blu-ray format and phase out a rival standard by Toshiba Corp. Netflix Inc. and Best Buy Co. said earlier this week they would also stop selling movies using Toshiba's HD-DVD format.

Boy, am I glad I'm a little bit behind the technology. Can you imagine those who purchased Toshiba's HD-DVD? I guess that's the price you pay when you want the lastest technology toy. Good move for those who decided to wait and see who would win the war.

Blu Ray, HD-DVD.... huh?
Sounds like star trek.
I haven't purchased a TV or a DVD player in almost 10 years. I guess I have the old technology.

I wonder what will happen when I can not longer watch my old DVD movies? Should I go out and buy an extra "old" dvd player to ensure years of service?
